What was the writing
process?

Initially, I pitched my idea to a panel—planning to write a critical piece about online food recipes and how they contribute to the dilution of traditional cooking. My original concept was more of a critique, focusing on the ways digital platforms, like TikTok and food blogs, simplify or distort meaningful cultural practices for the sake of trends. Once approved, however, the piece began to shift dramatically through multiple rounds of revisions, including a hand-in draft and a final proofreading stage before being published on the website.

Letting go of my original idea was challenging. I was attached to the critical tone and the direction I had initially envisioned. But as the piece evolved, I realized the story I truly wanted to tell was more layered—one that didn’t just criticize but explored the tension between tradition and innovation. By embracing the feedback and allowing the topic to grow beyond its original scope, I was able to deliver a more nuanced, thoughtful piece that still engaged with my initial concerns, but in a way that was ultimately more resonant and effective.
